The Hauraki Rail trail is a grade 1 ride that extends from Matamata to Kaiaua.
The Hauraki Rail trail is a grade 1 ride that extends from Matamata to Kaiaua (4–5-day ride), and the Waihi to Paeroa extension is a wonderful day ride of 24 kms (6 - 8 hours return).
Cycle through some of the most stunning scenery New Zealand has to offer in the Karangahake Gorge, stop to view waterfalls and picnic by the Ohinemuri River, or carry on for lunch in one of the many cafes in Paeroa. You’ll get to see much of Waihi’s rich gold mining history along the way as you pass old battlements and even take a ride on the Goldfield’s Railway Train.
